Colouring Easter eggs with natural food colours

There are many talks about the origin of colouring eggs in Easter, but it doesn't matter for me if it was Ancient Egyptian, Romanian or German. When I was a kid, we used to colour eggs with some dyes that were very bright and joyable, but sadly that wasn't healthy. We stopped colouring for a long time, and for years we used stickers to decorate eggs in Easter, but it wasn't that fun. I decided to search and made many trials till I could replace dyes by natural colours coming from food. Now I can enjoy colouring Easter eggs with my kids safely, I hope you too use my recipe to have fun without worrying about side effects from using artificial dyes.

 For red colour

Use beet root for red colour. Clean and chop 3 beets and put
it in a pot half filled with water. Add 1/2 tbsp vinegar to water and put on high heat to boil. Cover the pan and reduce heat. Leave to about 10 minutes then add eggs carefully and leave them to boil for more 5 minutes. Turn heat off and leave it aside to cool down. Take eggs out of coloured water and put on a tissue towel to dry.

For purple colour

Use Hibiscus flowers petals to get bright puple colour.
Nothing is easier than extracting colour from hibiscus. You can use the petal it self to draw on boiled white eggs, or boil hibiscus in water for a couple of minutes then put boiled eggs into coloured water, the wonder here is the colour of hibiscus is red but as long as it touches the egg shell it becomes purple :)
You don't need to leave it for a long time because it sticks immediately, that's why I have to tell you that you must put your apron on.

For dark brown colour

Very simple! Just boil some tea leaves and boil eggs with them. You can control the degree by adding more or less tea leaves.

For green colour

Use minced spinach or parsley. Boil in water for 10 minutes adding 1 tsp vinegar, then boil eggs in coloured water for more 5 minutes.

For orange colour

Use onions peel. Just take the dry skin of onion and boil in a pan. Don't forget 1tsp vinegar. Boil for 10 minutes then add eggs and boil for more 5 minutes. Leave it aside to cool down, then take eggs out of coloured water and put on a kitchen towel.

For yellow colour

Boil some orange peels or carrots slices in water for 10 minutes then put water and boil for more 5 minutes. Leave it aside to cool down, then take eggs out of coloured water and put on a kitchen towel.
